Wild Horse's part 11

Jess sat listening to her son sleep thinking about the events earlier. This is not how she had imagined the reunion would be like; she had always thought what nick would look like when he saw Jackson for the first time and now she would never know. She would also not have to see the expression on his face when he tried to talk about that night. She lay down on her bed and closed her eyes falling asleep to the thoughts and memories of their past which seemed like another life time ago.

Jackson’s cry woke her up from a dream of sensual pleasure in front of a roaring fire where nick had his hands all over her body. Jackson’s cry grew louder as she broke away from the last hold of the dream. At first the darkness confused her until she remembered her loss of sight. Stumbling towards the sounds of his cry jess navigated her room with ease. Her hands fumbled around the crib till she found him then she checked to see if he needed changing but he smelt fine and was dry which meant he was hungry. Picking him up she made her way to the chair next to the crib. When she sat down she heard a knock on the door. “come in” she called out and her mother walked in. “everything alright jess do you need any help” she offered. “We are fine he just wants fed” she replied as she settled back in to the chair. “Ok dinner will be ready in twenty minutes” Jane said as she turned and left the room.

Sitting down to dinner with her parents jess found it difficult to find and cut her food so her mother offered to cut it up for her. Jackson sat in his bouncy chair between jess and her mother making happy gurgling sounds. Jess felt like a child having her food cut up for her but she knew it was the easier option. In the past year she had lost her wild, free spirited nature and now she didn’t know who she was. After dinner Jane washed up while jess sat on the couch and listened to her father doting on his grandson, her father had gotten down on the soft rug between the couch and the fire and was waving a rattle at Jackson. She heard him as his boots walked across the porch. The knock at the door announced his arrival to them all. Opening the door Jane was not surprised to see nick standing on the other side. He held his hat in his hands and fidgeted with the brim. “Come in nick” Jane stepped back to let him in then returned to the dishes. Nick walked into living area. “Jack” he greeted the man getting to his feet in front of him. “Evening nick” jack said as he walked past him and into the kitchen to give them space. “Jess my mum and dad want to meet Jackson” nick told her and waited for a reply. “That’s fine do you want to take him over to meet them for a while then” she offered. “Yes they would love that would you like to come too I’m sure they would love to see you” he asked. Nick saw a change in her that he did not like, she had lost her spark. He picked up Jackson and smiled at his son. “No that’s alright I’m going to stay here maybe another time tell them I say hello. His coat and bag are by the door” she told him. She looked tired so he didn’t push her. “What time do you want him back” nick asked. “He goes to bed about nine but just bring him back when he falls asleep if you want” she explained. Nick took the bag and coat then left with a niggling feeling in his gut about leaving her. Jess excused herself and headed to her bedroom where she broke down in a flood of tears when she lay on the bed. She saw her future and the time share of their child between them. This is not how it should be. Her mum sat down on the bed next to her startling her as she didn’t hear her follow her. Putting a comforting hand on her daughter back she asked. “What’s wrong, come on it will be good for you to talk about it”. “Mum I’m just upset I always imagined seeing nick and jack together. What if I never get my sight back” jess blurted out. Sitting up she wiped the tears from her eyes and hugged her mum. “Why don’t you go and visit jovi. I’m sure he will be glad your back to see him” Jane told her knowing the bond she once had with her horse. “Come on I will take you over to him” she offered then stood up and helped her daughter to her feet and out of the house.
