Darkness surrounding him, he could feel the hunger growing within him. He stood still in the
warmth but still climbing he moved out and up towards the light at the same time. Out of the warm dark he pressed on into the light. Creatures large and small roamed the earth. He surrounded them and quenched his hunger; he fed and fed until a loud bang cracked through the land. Watching as an asteroid smashed into the earth causing dense clouds of dust which blocked the sun's rays, darkening and chilling the Earth to deadly levels for most plants and, in turn, many animals. He returned back down deep into the earth into the warm darkness to sleep. . He slept for a while then woke in the familiar darkness from earlier; the brightness hurt his eyes but when he got his focus he saw a man. The man was standing with fear in his eyes, rushing forward he surrounded the man and felt the hunger devour him. In an instant he was in darkness again waiting. He embraced the feeling of killing and eating, it felt good and natural to him. Jack woke with a sweat he had never remembered his dreams before but this one did not feel like a
dream more like a memory. It had shaken him he could still feel the hunger and the need to kill;
unable to sleep he got up and headed outside. Instead of the early morning sun bringing a soft
golden glow he was faced with the misty redness that had been following them for days. He called out to Pamela and martin “get up its here hurry get up”. Within seconds martin and Pamela had ran out and were by his side. Unknown to jack they too had just been woken by the same dream. The town people were running panicked trying to hide from the mist but they did not succeed. Jack, martin and Pamela got into the jeep and began to drive. They soon stopped when the little blonde girl that had been skipping outside the cafe and whom Pamela had learned was called molly came running out in front of them. She stopped and stood still as her mother came running towards her. The mist closed in around them making them vanish from sight. It was all over in less than a minute the screams were now silent and not a sound could be heard other than there jeep. The mist retreated and waited behind the jeep further down the street. Ever one had gone apart from the little girl who stood alone in front of them. Pamela got out of the car and ran to molly. Hugging the child Pamela picked her up and also took the bag that her mother had been carrying and carried her back to the jeep. Molly wasn’t crying, she wasn’t in a panic, she was silent no emotions no expressions just silent. “She’s in shock” said Pamela as jack drove away from the mist. Grabbing a blanket from the back of the jeep Pamela wrapped the little girl in it to keep her warm and from going further into shock. The mist backed off and allowed them to calm down. Driving off in the only direction available to them they sat in silence once again. “why her, why us” jack said out loud not expecting an answer. “what do you mean” replied Pamela. “it took every one but her and us, why there must be a reason it is picking us” he continued. They all had a think about it but could not come up with a reason.
Watching from afar crimson was enjoying himself more than he could ever remember. Staying back from the town he waited, remembering his life so far. He remembered it all from his creation along with the earth to his first meal they tasted good but he was disrupted when a comet had crashed into the earth, it had caused so much mess that he had returned to his slumber to wait for another chance. Sixty five million years had passed and now he was going to enjoy every minute of his meal this time and it was more appetising than the last. They had an essence the others did not it tantalised him and excited him, he was becoming addicted. The sun was beginning to rise and he had waited long enough. Creeping down hills he entered the town as people were beginning to start their day, their last day. They ran and hid; how he loved the chase it thrilled him like he had never felt before. He saw the one called jack and left him alone, instead going after the rest they couldn’t hide. He could creep through the smallest gaps and find them. He saw a mother run for her child and swooped in to devour them; however he could not take the child and left her alone. Once he had finished he backed away and watched as they took the girl into the jeep with them and drove away. He followed them at a slower pace to give them time to think about what he had just done.
